I thought it all started with Ginger Haze’s Ghost Protocol Summary, which is captioned with “Jeremy Renner is a Strong Female Character”. I know that I’ve been referring to his roles as “Strong Female Characters” since then, though it was cemented for me after I read this Hello, Tailor post:
For the bulk of the movie he’s either under mind control or in the midst of an action scene, and the only real moment of Clint Barton time is his scene with Black Widow just after he’s woken up. I’d actually classify him as filling something akin to the girlfriend/damsel role in Black Widow’s character arc — a person she cares about and feels she has to save, allowing the audience to learn about her Dark Past in the process. [emphasis added]
Ooh! I hadn’t read those. Thank you for passing them on!

Okay, so I’ll admit that can’t art. But my friends can! I’ve spread the word, hopefully they’ll pitch in!
Thank you so much, Laura!
